Parent Involvement Policy
Lindbergh Elementary School agrees to implement the following Parent Involvement Policy requirements:
- Lindbergh will jointly develop with parents a Parent Involvement Policy that the school and parents agree on.
- Lindbergh will notify parents about the Parent Involvement Policy in an understandable format and, to the extent possible, in the home language.
- Lindbergh will make the Parent Involvement Policy available to the local community.
- Lindbergh will periodically update the Parent Involvement Policy to meet the changing needs of parents and the school.
- Lindbergh will adopt the Parent/School Compact as a component of the Parent Involvement Policy.
- Lindbergh agrees to be governed by the following definition of parent involvement, and will carry out programs, activities and procedures in accordance with this definition:
- Parent involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring:
- Parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning;
- Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school;
- Parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.
Lindbergh Elementary School will implement required Parent Involvement Policy components as follows:
1. Lindbergh will take the following actions to involve parents in the joint
development of its Parent Involvement Policy and School Improvement Plan,
in an organized, ongoing, and timely way:
Disseminate the following materials to parents for review:
Parent Involvement Policy
Parent/School Compact
State Assessment Data
Title I School Improvement Plan
Written and oral input from parents will be solicited through parent
meetings, Site Council meetings, Family Advocacy conferences, school
newsletters, class newsletters, e-mail, building web site, and other
regular written communication.
2. Lindbergh will take the following actions to distribute the Parent
Involvement Policy to parents and the local community:
Parent Involvement Policy will be distributed to parents at parent
meetings.
Policy will be available upon request in school office.
Parents of new students will receive the policy upon enrollment.
Policy will be posted on the Lindbergh web site.
3. Lindbergh will periodically update its Parent Involvement Policy to meet the
changing needs of parents and the school through:
Site Council meetings
PTO meetings
Family Nights
Family Advocacy conferences
4. Lindbergh will convene an annual meeting to inform parents of:
Title I status
School Improvement status
Adequate Yearly Progress
Parent Involvement Policy
Parent involvement activities for the year
5. Lindbergh will hold parent meetings at varying times, and may provide
transportation and/or child care with Title I funding as long as these
services are related to parent involvement.
Lindbergh will provide information about Title I programs to parents
through memos, newsletters, e-mails, building web site, and calendars.
Lindbergh will provide parents with a description and explanation of the
curriculum in use at school, the forms of assessment used to measure
student progress, and the proficiency levels expected through:
Parent meetings
Family Advocacy conferences
Family Nights
Parent/teacher meetings
Class and building newsletters
E-mails
Building web site.
Responsibilities for High Student Academic Achievement
1. Lindbergh Elementary School will build the school’s and parents’ capacity for
strong parental involvement in order to ensure effective involvement of
parents and to support a partnership between the school, parents, and the
community to improve student academic achievement through the following
activities:
Family Nights focused on reading, math, writing
Parent access to resources, such as books, web sites, parent support
groups/organizations
Family Advocacy conferences
Parent/Teacher Organization meetings
2. Lindbergh will incorporate the Parent/School Compact as a component of
this Parent Involvement Policy.
The Parent/School Compact will be one component of the Parent
Involvement Policy.
The Parent/School Compact will be reviewed and signed by teacher,
parent, student, and principal at the beginning of the school
year at the Family Advocacy conference.
3. Lindbergh will provide assistance to parents in understanding topics, such as:
State’s academic content standards
State’s academic achievement standards
State and local academic assessments
Title I
Monitoring student progress
Working with educators
Curriculum and instructional strategies
Homework
4. Lindbergh will provide materials and training to help parents work with their
children to improve their academic achievement in:
Literacy
Mathematics
Writing
Science
5. Lindbergh will educate its teachers and staff in how to reach out to ,
communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, in the value and
utility of contributions of parents, and in how to implement and coordinate
parent programs and build ties between parents and school by:
Encouraging staff to attend parent involvement workshops,
conferences, web-based learning, and site staff development
6. Lindbergh will take the following actions to ensure that information related
to the school, programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to parents in
an understandable format, and, to the extent practical, in the home
language:
Upon identification of parent need for information in another language
or format, the school will take steps to ensure that parent request is
fulfilled.
