Breakfast is served, 8:40 – 9:00 am.  Breakfast ends at 9:00 am.

Tardy

Students are tardy if they enter the classroom after 9:00 am.  A student who is tardy must be accompanied to the office by the adult who brought the student to school.  Student will be given a tardy slip for entry to the classroom.  It is extremely important that students arrive on time.

Absences

KCK Public Schools require absences to be reported by a parent/guardian on the day of the absence, giving the child’s name, teacher’s name, and reason for the absence.  Valid excuses for absences are:  illness, medical/dental appointment, and family crisis/emergency.  (Excessive absences may require a doctor’s excuse.)  Other absences will be regarded as unexcused.  Three unexcused absences in a row, 5 in one semester, or 7 in a year are reported to the District Attorney’s office as truancy.  Call the school office at 627-5150 to report absences.

Early Pick Up

If a student must leave school early for an appointment, a parent/guardian must come to the office to sign the student out.  Adults will be asked to show a picture ID to ensure that the right person is picking up a student.  The student will be called to the office to be dismissed.  It is extremely important that students stay at school for the entire instructional day.

Bus Riders

Bus riders are assigned to specific buses.  If a student needs to ride another bus due to changes in after-school arrangements, a parent/guardian must notify the school in writing or by telephone.  An emergency bus pass must be written in the office prior to dismissal time.  Bus riders are expected to follow ALL safety rules while waiting on the bus, boarding the bus, riding the bus, and getting off the bus.

Car Riders

Students who are car riders should be dropped off at the north end of the west wing at 8:45 am.  Parents/Guardians who pick up students in the afternoon should park either in the lined parking spots outside the fence or in the southwest corner of the playground.  For student safety, cars on the playground should wait until all students have loaded buses before departing. Students should be picked up no later than 4:10 pm.

School-wide Expectations

Students are expected to demonstrate self-control, respect for others, and respect for property at all times, in all areas of the school (classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, multipurpose room, library, playground, and buses) as well as during all activities (class, specials, assemblies, breakfast/lunch, field trips, walking in hallway).  Students are to be respectful and follow the directions of all adults in the building.

Suspension

There are several situations that warrant immediate suspension from school:  fighting, physical/severe verbal abuse to staff members, sexual misconduct, and bringing a weapon to school.  Parents will be notified at the time of the suspension and will be expected to pick up the student immediately.

Items from Home

Students may NOT bring items from home to play with during school hours (including radios, tape players, pagers, cell phones, calculators, balls).  Playground equipment is provided by the school for recess.  Students should not bring things to eat (gum, candy, chips, pop, etc.) unless specifically requested by a teacher for a specific event.

Cafeteria

Students are expected to demonstrate good manners while in the cafeteria.

1.       NO TALKING while waiting in line and during dismissal.

2.       Keep hands and feet to self.

3.       Follow the 3-person rule while eating (talk in a quiet voice to the persons on either side and directly across from you).

4.       Students must walk at dismissal.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to complete a lunch program application as soon as possible.  Food Service will determine if a family qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program.  (Information is confidential.)

Students are not allowed to charge meals.  Food Service will send home envelopes to notify you regularly about the status of lunch accounts.

Medical Issues

All students must be current on all immunizations.  All students ages 8 and under entering a Kansas school for the first time must provide results of a well-child exam on a health assessment form.  Any special medical/dietary needs or concerns should be reported to the nurse immediately.

Medications:  Medications to be given at school should be brought to the nurse’s office by an adult in the original container.  Written permission from the parent/guardian and doctor are required.  Over-the-counter medications will not be given without a doctor’s written orders (including Tylenol, cough drops, inhalers, eye drops, etc.).

Lost and Found

A Lost and Found barrel is kept in the multipurpose room for items that are left unclaimed.  All personal belongings (book bag, coat, cap, etc.) should be marked with student’s name for easy identification.
